The expert racing panel will draw on the insight of highly regarded horse racing personalities; collectively they will dissect the main races, discuss the in-form horses and stables and offer professional analysis of the key races on the calendar…with a few tips thrown in along the way. Guests will be educated and entertained with an exclusive experience that is unrivaled in the market. We are delighted to confirm the personalities below will form part of our racing panel and we look forward to announcing more names shortly.
Michael is an award-winning journalist who has been with Ch7 for more than ten years working on major sporting events including multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games, the Australian Open, Wimbledon, AFL and of course Seven’s racing and Melbourne Cup coverages. With horse racing his passion, Michael has also hosted the flagship racing radio programme Racing Pulse weekday mornings on RSN 927 for the past four years.
From a kid raised in the wilderness of outback Queensland, Peter Moody found his feet in horse training under the guidance of racing legend Tommy Smith. In the years to follow he in turn became an icon of Australian racing’s training ranks, highlighted by the unprecedented 25 consecutive wins of world champion sprinter Black Caviar. He lays claim to a feat never likely to be matched – training Australia’s Racehorse of The Year five times in six seasons – and in 2016 called curtains on his training career with 53 Group 1 victories to his name.
Swapping 3.10am starts for a more palatable schedule these days, Moody has turned his attention to breeding where he has continued to break records with his mare Nurse Kitchen selling for $1.7 million at the 2017 Magic Millions sales. A highly sought after fixture on the speaking circuit, and with a career spanning wins in the Victoria Derby, the Caulfield Guineas, the Emirates Stakes and many others to his name, we are very excited to welcome Peter Moody to The Spring Preview stable.
Dylan Dunn carved a career early as a successful jockey, racking up a series of impressive victories before being crowned World Champion Apprentice Jockey in 2016. Retiring from the saddle a year later, he has since broadened his contribution to the industry as a full-time television presenter and widely admired personality at Racing.com. Dylan brings a unique insight and astute perspective to The Spring Preview and we look forward to his analysis of the upcoming Carnival.
At only 37 years of age, Ciaron Maher has established himself as a rare talent in Australian racing. Tasting Group 1 glory at just 26, he has gone on to consistently build upon that success to now boast the best winners-to-runners strike rate in Victoria. Renowned as much for his laconic nature and dry sense of humour as his infamous mop of hair, Maher will no doubt entertain guests with tales including a recent broken leg after being thrown from his prize student, 2016 Caulfield Cup winner Jameka, in preparation for her return to racing.
With multiple runners nominated for this year’s Caulfield Guineas, Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup, we’re equally as excited to hear what Ciaron has to say about his stable’s chances in the Carnival’s biggest races.
